The Only Known Photo of Duarte
The only known photograph of Juan Pablo Duarte, Father of the Nation, whose birth anniversary is celebrated this January 26th, marking 205 years since his birth, portrays the patriot in the final years of his life.
This invaluable portrait was taken in Venezuela in 1873, when Duarte was 60 years old. In the image, the founder of the Republic is depicted with a serene expression, holding a cane in his left hand while keeping his right hand in his trouser pocket.
